Each month we spotlight a different member to get to know them better! This month we are spotlighting 1701 Member, Adrian White Slagle.
Where are you from? How did you end up in Hampton Roads?
Virginia Beach local, born and raised! I grew up in the Shore Drive area.
What do you do? How did you get started?
I work for an advertising agency that has amazing nonprofit clients. I was the head of marketing and general market fundraising for a global organization that provides free, life-changing surgery headquartered right here in VB for 11 years called Operation Smile. I loved what I did and decided that I wanted to make an even greater impact on the world so I moved over to the agency side and now I have the great opportunity to help out multiple organizations with very worthy causes all at once.
Tell us what you want people to know about you and your business. What can we and the community do to help you?
One & All is a direct and brand marketing agency that works strictly with nonprofit brands to help them advance their business goals and achieve their mission. We have specialties with the following types of organizations: national, which is my focus (international relief and development, health, environmental, arts and culture, veterans affairs) and regional (food banks, missions, animal care). If you know of an organization that is looking to make an investment to grow their donor base, please send them my way!
What brought you to 1701?
My dad works in Economic Development and he had encouraged me to check it out. I met Lisa a few years ago and we bonded over our shared love for Lilly Pulitzer when she helped me sell some of my then-favorite pieces to help make room in my closet for more! When I changed jobs back in May and started working for a company based in California, I knew that 1701 was the right place for me to set up my remote workspace and meet some new and interesting people in various areas of business.
What’s your favorite thing about being a member here?
The coffee, the creativity and “the vibe” of the Vibe District.
Describe your perfect day.
I have a toddler, so I suppose there are two versions of my perfect day. One is family-focused and the other purely selfish 🙂
It’s Saturday and the sun is shining! We head to May’s Parlor for a yummy breakfast sandwich and all the pastries. Calorie-free of course. Our toddler sits still the entire time and eats whatever we give him without protest. We’ve brought our bikes with us so we pedal down to the Old Beach Farmers Market to check out the scene and get some fresh veggies. My husband and toddler are like “hey, look at those pretty flowers – we should get some for mom!” Grab a cold brew from Three Ships and then head to lunch – maybe somewhere new we haven’t tried yet. Again, toddler sits and behaves himself. Then we’re headed home for naptime. Naps for me included. Wake up then take a boat ride in the Lynnhaven and jump in the water for a swim. Stop by Surf Rider for dinner – have a rum runner or two and then head home.
Version 2: I’m in Hawaii – the North Shore. Hiking, exploring, paddle boarding, eating, drinking, lounging.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
Invisibility – eavesdropping on some interesting conversations
If we put one song on repeat at 1701 for an entire day, what would you request?
Everything in moderation…I feel like anything on repeat would be too much of a good thing.
What would you be doing if you didn’t need any money? Would you be doing your current job or something else?
What’s your favorite restaurant in the ViBe District?
What’s one app you use that improves your life and why?
The Podcast app….so many interesting things to learn.
What’s an interesting fact or tidbit (about anything) you like to share with people you meet?
My sister and I share the same birthday but we’re 5 years apart.
What’s your favorite beverage. (If it’s coffee, how many cups of coffee do you drink in a day?)
I love things that are flavored with botanicals – lavender and rose flavored lattes. Roast Rider makes their own syrup which is fantastic. And Trader Joe’s has a lemon elderflower sparkling drink right now that is delish.
Tell us about an amazing place you’ve traveled to.
While working at Operation Smile I had the ability to travel to many incredible places including Madagascar, Brazil, Philippines and various places throughout Europe.
What is one thing we could do to improve your experience working at 1701?
Everyone is so friendly! But a polite request for all the guys in the office: please try to put the toilet seat down 🙂 I doubt your mamas, sisters, girlfriends, and wives are okay with that at home. Help a girl out here at work too, please! I thank you on behalf of all the ladies here.
Also, Jeff, is there any way iced coffee can be available on the regular for the summertime months? Thanks!
